Throughout the presidential debate on Tuesday evening, former Vice President Joe Biden said many false and misleading statements that the left-wing fact-checkers are failing to call him out on.

At one point during the debate, Biden indicated that Dr. Anthony Fauci always supported the idea that everyone should wear masks to combat the Chinese coronavirus.

This claim is FALSE considering Fauci himself has admitted that he has altered his position on mask wearing.

Early during the pandemic, Fauci, who also serves as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and other public health officials advised people who were not in the medical field against wearing masks. However, later, in July, Fauci told Fox News the U.S. “would have been somewhat better off” if everyone had been wearing masks from the beginning of the pandemic.

Echoing other health officials, Dr. Robert Redfield, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has also been pushing for everyone to wear a mask in recent months.

During the debate on Tuesday, Wallace asked President Trump if he thought masks were a good tool to combat the coronavirus.

Biden himself responded to the claim and said that people in the Trump Administration have said that “masks make a big difference” and save lives.

“And they’ve also said the opposite,” President Trump correctly pointed out.

“No serious person said the opposite,” Biden falsely claimed.

“Dr. Fauci said the opposite,” the president said, later adding, “He said very strongly masks are not good. Then he changed his mind and said masks are good.”
