Three progressive House Democrats are pushing to amend the Insurrection Act after President Trump threatened to deploy active-duty troops to control the unrest over the past week related to the death of George Floyd.

Politico reports Congressional Progressive Caucus co-chairs Reps. Pramila Jayapal and Mark Pocan, as well as Rep. Ilhan Omar, announced on Thursday they would introduce legislation soon that would require congressional approval before troops can be deployed domestically.

The proposal comes after Trump vowed to send in the military after protests in recent days turned violent, escalating into several nights of looting, property destruction, and even shootings.
