At Thursday’s weekly press briefing, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) spoke about the ongoing negotiations between Republicans and Democrats. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer already said that the President had better stay out of the negotiations, as he said it would effectively end their talks, but Pelosi is now re-iterating that although they are there to talk, they will not compromise or fund a wall or barrier. She stated…

“There Is Not Going to Be Any Wall Money in the Legislation”

In fact, Pelosi (D-CA) declared there was not going to be any wall money in their legislation for border security or government finance! For example, when she was asked if the Democrats would compromise, she said…

“We are not having a negotiation over this right now. They are having a negotiation over there. There is not going to be any wall money in the legislation.”

She added…

“However if they have some suggestions about certain localities, technology, some infrastructure about these ports of entry maybe we need more ports of entry, that’s part of the negotiation. It is not a negotiation for the president’s sake. What did he say today? He said it doesn’t matter what Congress does. I knew he wanted at all to himself. I mean really? A president who wants Congress is completely irrelevant in how we meet the needs of the American people? No. Come on.”

Currently, according to the Department of Defense, there are three migrant caravans headed to the United States’ southern border with Mexico. On Tuesday, Pentagon official John Rood testified to the House Armed Services Committee that one of the caravans contains over 12,000 migrants, with two other Caravans headed northward towards the United States border. He said…

“Current information shows that a caravan of over 12,000 people — there’s three that we are tracking, that the DHS is tracking en route, one that is over 12,000 by the latest estimate.”

As a result of the expected massive flood of illegals, the Defense Department has announced that it is sending approximately 2,000 more troops to join the currently 2,300 active-duty troops.

Democrats continue to call the Presidents deployment of troops to the border a political stunt yet again, but the numbers of illegals flooding to the border before the 2018 election, and especially now, with the coordination of Open-border groups, is unprecedented.

Representative Mac Thornberry (R-TX) pointed out how the sheer size of the caravans and their nations that they originate from has changed in the past few years. He said…

“one of the things that changed is that now we have thousands and tens of thousands of migrants who are coming in caravans which we have not seen before. The days when we had a greater number of people — but most of them were from Mexico, and you could simply put them back across the border — are very different from these large family groups, 10, 12,000 people coming. So yes, it changed the requirements.”

Representative Vicky Harzler (R-MO) said…

“We have a 42 percent increase in the number of family units. We have 60,000 unaccompanied children that were caught last year. I’m a former teacher and a mom, this is a humanitarian crisis.”

Democrats continued to attack by stating that it is unprecedented to deploy troops to the border and that the military wasn’t designed for that. However, Representative Mike Rogers (R-AL) responded by pointing out that…

“administrations have been sending active-duty troops to the U.S. border with Mexico since the Alamo. I’m just astounded by the fact that we continue to act stupid in Congress and fuss over things like $5.7 billion in fencing, and it cost us $11 billion dollars to shut the government down.”

Today, even with troop deployment to the border, Rood pointed out that illegals were still able to come across the border! In fact, he said that…

“Just in the last three months alone, CBP reports apprehending 145,000 illegal immigrants. In the last two years alone, a larger number than the population of Washington, D.C. have been apprehended, or a city the size of San Francisco, apprehensions in two years.”

Therefore, while Pelosi and Schumer continue to do everything in their power to deny the President $5.7 billion to protect the American people with a wall or protective structure, it is not only leaving Americans at risk, but it is costing the American taxpayers countless billions beyond the amount needed to fully construct the wall in the first place.

The President doesn’t want to build a wall because we hate those outside the wall, but instead, we build a wall to protect those we love who are inside of the wall. In fact, it reminds me of why farmers build chicken coops for their birds, or fences for their goats and livestock. They do so because of coyotes, foxes, raccoons, and other animals who would kill their valuable possessions if they can get in. It doesn’t mean that they hate those animals who they keep out. Instead, they build those fences and walls to protect those valuables inside. Even President Obama the Clintons, and other Democrats have built walls around their homes. Do they hate Americans, or are they trying to protect those inside the walls of their home and property? The truth is, walls work, and that is why families, homes, the White House, and even nations like Jordan, Israel, and other nations build walls. They do so out of a love for their family, friends, and fellow citizens. That is why Obama and other Presidents built walls along the southern border! To protect America and Americans!

Therefore, although some Democrats are breaking from the now-radicalized leadership of the Democrat Party, it continues to be unlikely that the President will get the funding from Congress to protect our nation! Therefore, he will likely turn to the military and a Declaration of National Emergency due to the border crisis.

Reps. Hartzler and Mo Brooks (R-AL) pointed out that although the President and his Administration have the authority to declare a national emergency, they also have the right to utilize the military to build a border barrier without declaring a national emergency. Hartzler pointed out that…

“Congress has actually given the DOD the ability to provide military support to law enforcement agencies specifically for countering the counter-drug purposes. Section 284 of Title 10 of the United States Code authorizes the DOD to provide support to counter drug activities to control the transnational organized crime. The law clearly identifies various activities that DOD is authorized to conduct including the construction of road and construction of fences, light installation along smuggling corridors, aerial, ground reconnaissance and transportation.”

Rood responded to Hartzler and said that her assessment was correct, and stated that…

“As you correctly point out, Section 284 of Title 10 does provide the secretary of defense the authority in performance of that counter-drug mission such as blocking drug smuggling corridors to erect barriers, fencing, provide road construction things of that nature to aid in that counternarcotics mission. We have already given the authority to do this and we have a very critical mission to keep people safe and make sure that people don’t die as a result of these transnational drug cartel activity and currently, they are. So it’s imperative for us to find a solution.”

He added that if the President gave the order under Section 284 to build barriers, that…

“If we judge it to be a lawful order, yes sir, and I assume it would be.”

Ultimately, it is likely that it will come down to the President going it alone because although the Republican-controlled Senate has pledged to fund a border wall or physical barriers, the Democrat-controlled House has vowed to block it by any means necessary! Therefore, it will likely be up to the President and his Administration to protect the American people, using whatever legal means necessary including the ‘Declaration of National Emergency”, or Section 284! In the end, only time will tell, which path the President chooses to make!
