Ironically, there was a time, where the Democrat Party stood up for the Constitution and the ‘rule of law’. For example, in 1993, Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) said that “no sane country” would incentivize illegal immigration by granting birthright citizenship

During a broader critique of both legal and illegal immigration into America, then Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said:

If making it easy to be an illegal immigrant isn’t enough, how about offering a reward for being an illegal immigrant? No sane country would do that, right? Guess again. If you break our laws by entering our country without permission to give birth to a child, we reward that child with U.S. citizenship and guarantee a full access to all public and social services this society provides, and that’s a lot of services. Is it any wonder that two-thirds of the babies born at taxpayer expense in county-run hospitals in Los Angeles are born to illegal alien mothers?

Reid also criticized chain migration and the visa lottery, calling for immigration policies to “serve the public interest.” He further critiqued the asylum system by stating…

Just when the American people think nothing can be more absurd than the way we deal — or rather don’t deal — with illegal immigration, they discover that we have a political asylum system that would qualify us for Senator Proxmire’s Golden Fleece Award a thousand times over.

I don’t know why he didn’t make this award. He should have. Last year, more than a hundred thousand people showed up in this country — landing at airports, washing up on our shores in leaky boats, crossing our borders illegally, overstaying their visas — saying two magic words: ‘political asylum’, and virtually assured themselves of being allowed to remain in the United States forever.

Anyone, no matter how specious the claim, can utter those words and within a matter of hours be released on their own recognizance onto the streets of our country with a promise that they’ll show up for a hearing eighteen months later. Can anyone really say they’re surprised that the vast majority of asylum applicants never ever show up for these hearings?

Now, as the President works to re-secure our nations borders, and do exactly what Harry Reid, and our Founding Fathers envisioned Presidents to do, Reid has made a completely unbelievable turnaround by saying…

“After I proposed that awful bill, my wife Landra immediately sat me down and said, ‘Harry, what are you doing, don’t you know that my father is an immigrant?’ She set me straight. And in my 36 years in Washington, there is no more valuable lesson I learned than the strength and power of immigrants and no issue I worked harder on than fixing our broken immigration system. Immigrants are the lifeblood of our nation. They are our power and our strength. This president wants to destroy not build, to stoke hatred instead of unify.”

Harry Reid (D-NV), Former Senate Majority and Minority Leader

Interestingly, Reid’s choice of words is quite significant, as he said that “immigrants are the lifeblood of our nation”, and not Americans or their children. Probably because Democrats now consider illegal aliens as the ‘lifeblood’ of their party. Especially as they have abandoned ‘We the People’, in favor of a socialist, elitist, and globalist initiative. A plan that puts ‘We the People’, as insignificant, unless we support their ideologically anti-American aims.
