In September, Republican Senate Candidate Barletta informed Democrat Senator Bob Casey that his 18-month-old-grandson is suffering from cancer, and has been undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Then, Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) suggested that his Republican opponent Bob Casey (R-PA) would deny care to young cancer patients, including his suggestion that he would deny care to his own cancer-stricken grandson in a tv ad.
The political advertisement featured a mother who described her twin children’s cancer diagnosis, where she said…
“if Lou Barletta has his way, kids like [those] could be denied the care they need.”

Republican Senate Candidate Barletta responded to the ad by stating…
“What Bob Casey did with that commercial is one of the most hurtful, insensitive things I have ever experienced in my political career. To want to win an election that bad, that you would go that far, to hurt my family … is the lowest thing I’ve ever experienced in my life.”
Lou Barletta (R-PA), Senate Candidate
✔@louforsenateUS Senate candidate, PABob Casey just released an insensitive and personal attack ad accusing Lou Barletta of wanting to rip away health care from twin children with cancer, after Lou personally told Casey of his 18-month-old twin grandson currently undergoing chemo for cancer. Here is Lou’s response:
Democrat Bob Casey responded to Barletta’s criticisms by stating that he did not intend to offend him or his family, but the irony seems compelling in itself. Furthermore, Casey said that his campaign would be removing the ads from the television. However, instead of fully removing the ad from televisions across Pennsylvania, he only removed the ad campaign from one area…Scranton, Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, the ad is going to continue airing across the state. Barletta said that…
“you wouldn’t do this unless you felt that you had to, to hurt a family for political purposes. It’s just wrong.”

Currently, Casey is ahead in the polls by 14-16%, but as the nation’s senate races appear to be moving towards Republican, Casey may likely be concerned that he needs the extra momentum moving into the final weeks before the midterm elections. No matter the motivation, this was certainly a low blow for Casey, as the Democrat Party seems to be willing to use any means to regain power in Congress, and throughout the nation, regardless of what damage it may do to lives of men and women who choose to serve or nation, or their families.
