After another school shooting tragedy that occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland Florida, Americans must ask how this tragedy could have been averted. What would make the mentally deranged think twice about perpetrating such a heinous act? What would prevent those who wish to do harm from entering a school to commit mass murder? What would stop an assailant who choses to penetrate the school building with the intention of killing innocent children. In the days, weeks, and even years to come, it is likely going to be the subject of debate that will inundate the political and educational realms of our society.
Following the Florida school shooting, Democrats once again immediately called for gun control with a confiscation of American’s guns. For example, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) responded to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School attack by pointing out that she has an “assault weapons” ban waiting for a vote right now.
Although the push to ban “assault weapons” is a common reaction amongst gun control advocates, it does not change the fact that such firearms are by no means the weapon of choice for killers. For example, in 2011, less than .012 percent of the overall deaths in America were tied to “assault weapons.” And more recently, in 2016, FBI statistics show that four times as many people were stabbed to death than were killed with rifles of any kind. Therefore, should we ban knives too?
Despite the facts, Democrats and their Mainstream Media propaganda wing began demonizing Republicans, Conservatives, and especially President Trump. They ridiculed Christians for praying for the victims, claimed that the NRA was in cahoots with the Russians, and spread misinformation about the attacker.
In their attempt to as Democrats like to say, ‘never let a good crisis go to waste,’ Democrats immediately took to social media and the airwaves to condemn not the shooter, but instead condemned the NRA, Trump, Christians, Conservatives, and Republicans, and the guns themselves. The truth behind the Florida shooting incident, is that Nikolas Cruz was a former student who was expelled from the school. He was not allowed on campus with any kind of backpack that would allow him to conceal a weapon. The obvious reasons for this was the school’s concern over his repeated threats to do harm to his fellow classmates and school employees. All warning signs that went unnoticed or ignored by authorities, despite the FBI having multiple warnings from concerned citizens that were never investigated.
Families are still in mourning as Democrats have taken to social media to urge political action and demonize Republicans and the National Rifle Association. In fact Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) who is Vice Chair of United States Progressives tweeted:
Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) who goes by ‘Proud #BlackWoman, Progressive Democrat, and Member of the #Resistance and Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus of Black Women and Girls stated:
Also, Democrats criticize Republicans for offering sincere condolences to the victims, if they oppose the Democrats gun grab legislation. For example, Representative Frank Pallone tweeted: “You can’t sincerely offer condolences to the victims if you don’t support common sense measures to reduce gun violence. Enough with the thoughts and prayers. Let’s get to work.”
Representative Chris Murphy (D-CT) called Republicans accomplices to the murders, Representative Ted Lieu of Hawaii criticized Congressional Republicans for offering their thoughts and prayers, and insinuated that gun control is the moral imperative over prayers.
Representative Donald Norcross (D-NJ) has been caught spreading mis-information about gun violence. He tweeted:
This is greatly misleading since this statistic leaves out the fact that it encompasses suicides, suicide attempts, accidental gun firings, and multiple instances where shots were fired, but thankfully no one was injured. The facts show that there have been 3 deaths prior to Parkland Florida, and several injuries. Therefore, the Donald Norcross’ claim that there have been 18 school shootings in the first 45 days of 2018 is irresponsibly misleading, even by Bernie Sanders standards:
The Progressive/Socialist Democrats are attacking President Trump as well. Democrats immediately attacked President Trump by stating that if he is at all serious about confronting gun violence, he will institute universal background checks and an assault weapons ban (Democrat Ed Markey). Therefore, obviously, the only way Democrats will consider you to be sincere about gun violence is to side with them and confiscate guns.
Democrat Bonnie Watson Coleman tweeted to President Trump that ” your thoughts and prayers are hollow. Your words are meaningless. Children are dead. Families are broken. Communities are being plagued by violence that you enable, and then quoted a Progressive/Socialist left-wing media article by Mother Jones claiming that President Trump made it easier for mentally ill people to buy guns, and then claimed that the Florida mass shooting was President Trump’s fault.
Then, on February 15, Democrats began twisting the president’s words into something that he didn’t say. This is a sick distortion of reality, and Jim McGovern should be shamed!
In truth, the President is not blaming the students, he is advocating for families, friends, faculty, and students to report any signs of concern to authorities, so not to allow any such incident from happening in the future. The pettiness and adolescent behavior of such blatantly childish politicians should make them ashamed. But unfortunately, this isn’t about appropriate behavior. Democrats are not in this to help students or children. It is about a means to a political end. Democrats HATE Christians! Democrats HATE Conservatives! Democrats HATE empowering Americans to protect themselves. In fact, isn’t it ironic that the very people in America who claim guns kill, happen to surround themselves with body guards and protective details to ensure the safety and security of their own families! Hollywood actors, millionaires and billionaires, Elitist politicians, and others all have security details. Our children are precious, and should be protected just the same!
The second chart shows that between 1998 and 2015, mass public shootings where guns were allowed was at a minimal 3.8% of the incidents, and over 98% of the mass shootings occurred in places where people had no way to defend themselves. Once again, a sign that areas with guns are a huge deterrent for those who intend to inflict harm on others.
The Florida school shooting was truly a tragedy that should have been averted, but those precautions failed at several levels. First, Cruz pulled the fire alarm to draw students out into the open. A tactic that he knew would force students and faculty into the open air, and make them easy targets for a mass killing. Unfortunately, schools prepare for each type of tragedy separately, and when the fire alarm is pulled, students and staff are programmed to exit the building within a few minutes, while locking all doors behind them. This allowed Cruz to draw them out into the open and trap them. Luckily, a custodian realized there was something wrong and directed students to return quickly to their rooms. This likely saved countless lives.
Reports indicate that students were not surprised when they realized that the shooter was Cruz, because he was known to be a trouble maker and had been expelled from a number of private schools, and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where the shooting took place. In fact, the student was not allowed to enter campus with a bag, likely to prevent him smuggling in a gun. Indications that Cruz was already on the radar for potential gun violence.
Most on the left just don’t understand those who disagree with them on gun control, especially when it involves those who have been through a gun tragedy. For example, when High School Student Brandon Minoff was asked by NBC’s Brian Williams how he would prevent such tragedies if he was lawmaker in a “decision-making position,” clearly fishing for a plea for gun control, Brandon Minoff asserted that the problem isn’t guns, but mental health issues instead.
“Gun-wise, I don’t think there’s any way to prevent it,” the elder Minoff responded. “You outlaw guns, it just creates higher demand for it. I think it has to do with mental health, though. If he’s been expelled three different times from three different schools, I think he should be helped out.”
The second failure to stop the incident involved multiple reports to the FBI. In fact, Cruz had been reported to the FBI as a potential school shooter in September of last year.
Nicolas Cruz posted this comment on YouTube:
Then, Cruz was reported to the FBI again in January. In fact the FBI Had Niklolas Cruz’s name from YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook, but they ignored It.
FBI Chief Lasky was asked about the reports they had received and the YouTube threat, and he responded by stating:
“We do not know if it was the same person. We, through our database checks, we could not positively identify him. We’re going back. We’re scrubbing the information. We’re looking at it again. I am not willing to say at this time that it was the same person.”
THEY COULDN’T IDENTIFY HIM? It begs the question, WHAT IS GOING ON IN AMERICA’S FBI? Maybe if they were not so involved in trying to bring down President Trump, they just might have saved the lives of those 17 innocent teenagers and faculty members.
Therefore, how can we protect our children if gun confiscation isn’t the answer. To understand that, we have to look at an October 22, 2013 the Huffington Post article that reported:
The Arkansas Christian Academy in Bryant, Arkansas, is making national headlines after it announced that some staff members will be armed with guns. It’s about time we have one institution that is finally standing up and protecting our children, and hopefully it won’t be the last. In fact, every school teacher in America should be armed in the classroom.
After looking at the statistics, looking at the failures of government protecting our children, it is time for us to look at other alternatives. Blatantly, gun free zones have proven to create soft-targets that allow armed intruders to penetrate the buildings, move un-confronted for precious minutes before the armed police can arrive. It is high-time that we create a deterrent for these mentally ill terrorists to breach the sanctity of schools and threaten our most precious possessions. It is time for us to make it known that anyone who tries to breach the walls of our schools will be met with force. It will require our schools and the government to create a background check system, and training classes that prepare those professionals who carry guns. Also, schools need to have the ability to set off gates that can be lowered and locked in the hallways. As a result, the armed intruder would be locked down to a specific area, and it would prevent him from having free range of the entire school. It would enable the police to track down and bring down the armed assailant quicker, and with fewer casualties. Every second counts in a school shooting, and calling 911 to wait for police to arrive isn’t good enough. We have to give our children and teachers a fighting chance in the precious minutes while the police travel to the site.
If we lived in a perfect world, we wouldn’t have to implement such measures. However, we don’t live in a perfect world anymore. We live in a time where our children are exposed to murder and death on a daily basis. We live in a time where we are under the constant threat of terrorism and murder. Ultimately, taking guns away from Americans is not the answer. That would only create the largest target for those who aim to kill or maim as many individuals as possible. A school should be a safe haven for nurturing, learning, and growing.
President Donald Trump addressed the country Thursday morning in the aftermath of the school shooting in Florida, calling for a working plan to keep America’s schools safe. Trump said:
“It is not enough to simply take actions that make us feel like we are making a difference, we must actually make that difference.”
He specifically called attention to mental health, and promised to meet with federal and state officials to discuss the problem, but he did not address gun control laws at that point.
He described the shooting as one of:
“terrible violence, hatred, and evil.”
Trump spoke directly to American school children, urging them to reach out to authority figures in their lives for help and to treat each other with dignity. Trump went on to say:
“Answer hate with love; answer cruelty with kindness,” he said. “We must also work together to create a culture in our country that embraces the dignity of life, that creates deep and meaningful human connections, and that turns classmates and colleagues into friends and neighbors.”
The president cited 2 Kings 20:5 to comfort those in grief:
“‘I have heard your prayer and seen your tears, I will heal you,’”
Trump thanked Americans who responded to the shooting, including the teachers who helped save lives of children in the school by saying:
“To law enforcement, first responders and teachers who responded so bravely in the face of danger, we thank you for your courage.”
American Progressives have tried to undermine the 2nd Amendment through gun buy back programs with little success. It turns out to be a fortunate thing, because one example can be seen in 1997, when the Australian government took many guns off the streets in a gun buy-back scheme. Since that day, the crime rate has soared! One year after the 1997 buyback that cost Australia $500 million, there was a 44 percent increase in armed robberies; an 8.6 percent increase in aggravated assaults, and a 3.2 percent increase in homicides. In Australia, they now use gun registration lists to find citizens in noncompliance, and that enables the police to go house to house and enter any home to search for guns without a search warrant! Do we want that here in the United States?
Although we should highly respect the police, and look to them for safety and security, I would still prefer to have a gun in my hand over a policeman on the phone. In addition, our Founders warned of a government who tried to disarm ‘We the People’. All that combined with the bible’s teachings, statistics that show gun free zones create vulnerable soft targets and increased crime, it leaves the overwhelming reality that disarming Americans is not the answer. We should end the politicization of mass murder and school shooting tragedies. In fact, it always seems so ironic when politicians ask how can we trust armed security in our schools, yet at the same time, they protect themselves with armed security.
Instead, we should arm teachers and administration. We should implement gates that cut-off would be intruders to the majority of the school population. We need to work to implement retired police officers and veterans to help watch over and protect our schools. Then, and only then can we begin to implement real life-saving strategies that can keep our little ones safe.
